American DJ FS-1000 Overview
The American DJ FS-1000 Special Effect Light is a followspot that uses a 575W halogen lamp and specially-designed reflector to produce more output than a typical 1000W lamp. Offering similar output and brightness with lower power consumption helps reduce heat and product cost over time. The unit is contained in an extruded aluminum housing and comes with a hanging bracket.
The unit can be hung from the bracket or set on a tripod. Dual focusing knobs enable precise full focusing. An iris control knob at the top of the unit can be used to blackout the light. A dimmer allows you to adjust the intensity, and a set of optional color gels are available (sold separately).

perfect fit
does all that was promised
Powerful, simple spotlight
I am not an AV pro, barely an amateur, but this spotlight works very well. The light is bright and easy to use. Focusing, or unfocusing the light is very easy to do and I like the feature that blocks the light altogether. There is some slight fan noise, but I imagine that is to be expected and was not a big issue for me. The stand it comes with seems like it can't hold this 17lb light, but it does that very well! Definitely a good experience with this light.
Decent for the price with some shortcomings
I used this light for the first time at a seminar in a hotel. It worked well, but in one case I had to crank it up. After some time it started to flicker and I was forced to work without the light. I let it cool and it worked fine after that. Doesn't seem to like working at full brightness, but I can usually work around that. It's a low cost followspot and much better than stuff I had mickymoused together in the past. So, if you are not on a tight budget, get a better unit, but this one is fine, especially if you are in a smaller venue.

This came very highly recommended. I was really nervous about ordering a portable spotlight since I know very little about projection, but this has been an absolute dream!
Good For Our Theatre
We ordered this for our summer musical, Nunsense. It's working great in our small (90 seat) venue. The tripod has a pretty small footprint and we were able to put the instrument in our control booth with no issues. The total distance to the stage is about 40 feet. For the price, we we're not sure if it would be good enough for our application, but it is better than expected.
