SOMA Laboratory COSMOS Overview
SOMA Laboratory's Cosmos Drifting Memory Station is a looper designed to evoke meditative states through sonically evolving repetitions. Quality is boosted with high-end Cirrus Logic converters, Burr-Brown op-amps, 24-bit / 48 kHz resolution, and 32-bit floating point internal processing.
Functionally, Cosmos is a large sound memory database, constantly recombining recorded sounds. Ever-changing soundscapes are generated in three ways?a mathematical shift based on relationships between large prime numbers (the sizes of all delay lines are different primes), asynchronous LFO operation, and modulation with an ever-evolving chaotic signal. It allows endless layering and processing of various sounds as a looper would, but with but without the stale monotony associated with traditional loop generators.
- BLUR adds cross-feedback between delay lines, which leads to a gradual blurring of your content
- DRIFT modulates delays with an asynchronous LFO whose frequency in turn is modulated by a slow chaotic signal
- DRIVE adds gentle distortion to the sound, similar to a guitar overdrive
- FEEDBACK controls level of delay redundancyÂ
- MIX determines the balance between incoming and outgoing signal
- NOISE GATE keeps loop clean during long performances by protecting against unwanted sounds arising from silence
- SUP/COM is a suppresor/compressor that can affect either incoming or existing looping sounds based on user needs
- Four algorithms (two delays, four delays, giant reverb, and granular delay), each with three variations
- Low-pass filter
- High-pass filter
- Erase
- Reverse
- Record
