The Story

GAMECHANGER AUDIO GCAAUTOMDE Overview

Advanced Delay Pedal with Patchbay and Parameter Automation
Delve deeply into the wide world of modular delays with the Auto Delay from Gamechanger Audio, a fully modular delay pedal that allows you to use a built-in CV patchbay to automate level, time, feedback, and tone parameters, for completely unique sounds. With switchable tape, analog, and digital delays, the sonic potential is vast.

Via the two precise Dynamics and Pitch trackers, you have numerous expressive methods of generating signals for internal or external CV patching. You can select between 0, 50, and 100% stereo spread, as well as three Dynamics and Pitch modes. You can also select three Automation modes. LEDs indicate CV signal input or output, and two dedicated LED meters are used to display Dynamics and Pitch signal information in real time. With a plethora of connectivity, including stereo 1/4" inputs and outputs, 3.5mm MIDI and Track inputs, USB-C, and the superversatile 3.5mm patchbay, you can experiment endlessly with external trigger sources, signal chains, electronic ecosystems, and oodles of modular tweaking.

Patchbay and Automation Controls
Each of the pedal's four parameters has a dedicated Automation input socket with a corresponding indication LED, and a mini (Auto) knob, used for adjusting the amount and polarity (+ or -) of the incoming control voltage (CV).

  • Automation is achieved by sending CV into a parameter CV input and adjusting the mini knob
  • Two tracker engines are offered: Dynamics and Pitch
  • Each tracker has two idential outputs on the patchbay
  • Use external CV sources such as LFOs, sequencers, EGs, and more, to automate parameters
Automation Modes
  • Sum mode: Positive CV signals will move the parameter knob value clockwise, while negative CV signals will move the parameter knob counterclockwise.
  • External mode: Allows you to apply the Dynamic or Pitch tracker outputs onto any external CV source to create a variety of ducking and gating effects.
  • Alt mode: Allows you to use the Auto knobs to set up Alternative parameter values. When the Auto footswitch is engaged, all parameters that have a patch cable inserted will instantly jump to the value dialed in by the Auto knob.
Dynamics Modes
  • Fast mode: Fine-tuned to react to strums and sudden note onsets, this mode produces a sharp increase in CV once the threshold is crossed. The Release parameter determines the rate at which the CV value will fall during sustains.
  • Rise mode: The Rise mode responds gradually to your playing dynamics and produces a continuous increase in CV whenever the input signal exceeds the threshold value. Release determines the rate at which he CV value will fall.
  • Gate mode: This mode is designed to produce rapid on/off automations, jumping to the maximum output value once the threshold is crossed. The Release parameter adjusts the duration of the On state.
Delay Algorithms
The Auto Delay offers you three unique and radiant-sounding algorithms, delivering the best of classical analog and digital delay landscapes:

  • Tape: This algorithm mimics the tone control section, tape saturation, and compression of a vintage tape echo. Gamechanger Audio has deliberately not emulated the typical wow and flutter effects associated with tape delay, as these sounds can be achieved by automating the Time parameter in numerous ways.
  • Analog: The Analog algorithm replicates the tonal response of a vintage high-quality studio bucket-brigade delay. Automating the Time parameter while the Repeats level is set high produces classic and warm pitch-shifted delay tails.
  • Digital: This algorithm is intended to be used when the delay signal needs to be precisely the same as the input signal without any coloring. This produces clear and spectrally precise repeats with the Tone knob set in the center position and provides the ability to automate the tone to become darker or brighter.
Track Tempo and Panning
The Auto Delay features an innovative approach to the tap tempo function: Track Tempo. When you push and hold both footswitches at the same time, the Auto Delay uses its dynamic tracking capabilities to determine the tempo of your strumming and sets the Time parameter value accordingly. The pedal also features three stereo panning modes: off; 50, or 100% (ping pong).
Core Controls
  • Repeat determines the number of repeats. The lowest setting produces zero repeats. When turned completely clockwise, the delay goes into an infinite feedback loop.
  • Tone controls the coloration of all currently sounding delay tails. The character of the Tone circuit is dependent on the selected algorithm.
  • Time adjusts the delay time from 40 ms to 2 seconds.
Pitch Bar
The Pitch tracking engine analyzes the tonal content of the input signal at all times and displays it as a moving white cursor on the Pitch LED Bar. Depending on the Pitch mode and settings, the cursor will move in and out of CV zones, indicated as red or blue LED segments on the Pitch Bar. The brightness shows output CV strength up to 5V.
Pitch Modes
  • Note mode: Using Note mode, you can produce positive CV using any signal note as the reference point.
  • Tone mode: Rather than tracking specific notes, Tone mode analyzes the input frequency spectrum, allowing you to generate CV based on your instrument's tonal characteristics.
  • V/Oct mode: This mode uses the pitch tracker to generate precise bipolar CV output. The calibrated note will produce a 0V output, and notes above or below the calibrated value will produce positive or negative CV output respectively.
Extra Features
  • Stereo or mono signal processing via either two 1/4" TS mono cables or one 1/4" TRS stereo cable
  • Switchable input level: instrument, line, or Eurorack
  • Selectable Level knob functionality: Input Level + Dry Sound, Input Level + Kill Dry, or Dry/Wet Mix
  • MIDI/Clock input for MIDI clock or analog trigger sync for time-based effects
  • USB-C for MIDI and updates
